A run-through of the research and interventions relating to suicide and suicide prevention

Interview-style, with Elizabeth Irias, LMFT

  • Course Description

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in this country; it is also the 2nd leading cause of death in people ages 10-34. Unfortunately, suicide risk assessment is not taught, or is taught minimally in graduate school programs. Therefore, professionals enter the field with not enough training to work with their clients who are at risk. This podcast interview course will provide an overview of some of the important areas of suicide risk assessment, and of the myths that professionals often have about suicidal clients.

  • Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Describe two or more types of suicidal behavior; Illustrate how to directly ask about suicidal ideations; List the three components of Thomas Joiner’s Psychological Theory of Interpersonal Suicide
