    This course will explore the fusion of substance use and sexual behavior, sometimes known as “chemsex,” and its impact on sexual functioning and intimacy. Specific cultural, social and interpersonal aspects of the epidemic will be explored. The recovery process, including important considerations and milestones useful for clinicians, will be discussed.

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Describe at least three clinical signs and symptoms of stimulant misuse and co-occurring sex addiction; List the effects of stimulants on the brain, including specifics about their impact on sexual arousal and behavior; List two or more clinical considerations relating to the treatment of paired substance use and sexual behavior

Sexual Addiction Expert

David Fawcett PhD, LCSW is a social worker and sex therapist. He is the author of Lust, Men, and Meth: A Gay Man’s Guide to Sex and Recovery (Healing Path Press 2015) which explores the intersection of gay men, drug use, and high-risk sexual behavior. The book was named “2016 Best Nonfiction Literature” by POZ magazine. He is also Vice President for Clinical Programming at Seeking Integrity LLC which develops and operates treatment programs for fused drug and sex behaviors (chemsex) and intimacy disorders. Seeking Integrity currently has a facility in Los Angeles. In 2018 he co-produced an award- winning documentary called Crystal City which follows several gay men in recovery from meth. He frequently presents workshops on addiction, LGBT issues, HIV and co-occurring disorders both in the US and internationally. He is a regular contributor to TheBody.com and TheBodyPRO.com and he has been published in Huffington Post, Positively Aware, and other journals.
