• COURSE DESCRIPTION

This on-demand podcast CE course offers an introduction to circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders and how they can sometimes be mistaken for insomnia or other clinical concerns. The discussion reviews basic assessment considerations, including sleep timing, functional impact, and the use of sleep diaries, and introduces the role of light exposure and environmental demands in shaping the sleep-wake cycle. The course also touches on developmental and contextual factors such as age, shift work, travel, and mismatches between an individual’s internal clock and the schedule their life requires.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Differentiate a circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorder from insomnia by identifying three or more distinguishing clinical features; List three or more assessment data points that can be gathered through a sleep diary when evaluating sleep timing concerns; Identify two or more developmental, behavioral, or environmental factors that can contribute to a mismatch between circadian timing and daily demands
