  • Course Description

    In this interview-style course, in addition to being exposed to an overview of our relationships with social media (including relevant and current statistics), listeners will learn how to identify potential risk factors of unhealthy social media use in their clients. Listeners will be provided with pragmatic strategies to promote healthier device management and positive digital citizenship, including how to recognize potential risks/negative outcomes of their use and utilization, as well as skills, strategies, and recommendations regarding interventions.

  • Learning Objectives

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Identify two or more biological, psychological, sociological, and/or academic/occupational negative consequences which may be directly linked to social media, utilization, and/or behaviors; Describe symptomatic manifestations of unhealthy or inappropriate social media use.

Dr. Don Grant is an internationally award-winning media psychologist, researcher, addiction specialist, chairman of the American Psychological Association "Device Management & Intelligence" Committee, and has been commissioned by APA to write the only book on "Healthy Device Management & The Practice of Good Digital Citizenship" they plan to publish. He is also a certified chemical dependency counselor, nationally certified group facilitator, and clinician/educator trainer. He received his B.A. with honors from the University of Michigan, MFA from the University of Southern California, and both an MA and Ph.D. (summa cum laude) in Psychology (with an emphasis in media psychology) from Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara.

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias, MS, LMFT

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias (she/her) is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and the Founder and President of Clearly Clinical. She has specializations in Clinical Documentation, Best Practice, and Utilization Review, and works closely with clinical teams across the US as a trainer and national conference presenter; Beth was formerly an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University in the Graduate Psychology and Education department. Licensed in California and Oregon, she provides therapy via her private practice to young adult and adult clients, members of the LGBTQ population, and those with addictive disorders. She has two young children, a super cool spouse who helps out with Clearly Clinical's tech, and a rescue dog.
