Exploring the impact of negative thought patterns in early addiction recovery

  • Course Description

This course examines negative beliefs and inaccurate thought patterns that often impact those in early addiction recovery. Using principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, clinicians can support revised belief systems that can help clients develop and maintain a “Recovery Identity” that reinforces the behavioral changes already made in getting sober. This interview course also briefly discusses the impact of spiritual and religious beliefs on thought patterns, particularly through the lens of the Christian faith.

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: List three common self-sabotaging distorted beliefs held by many people in early recovery; Describe the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior; Explain the principle of displacement to overcome negative thinking patterns
