    What is narcissism and what is Narcissistic Personality disorder? This course provides a thorough definition of narcissism and the disorder as it falls on a spectrum. The course offers a more experiential approach to recognizing individuals who may be victims/survivors of narcissistic abuse and the abusive cycle that persists when someone is involved with a pathological naricissist. Clinicians will be better able to identify the cycle of abuse, allow client to heal through empowerment, and differentiate between someone who has been gaslighted into an abusive relationship versus a an individual more prone to co-dependency.

  • Learning Objectives

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Describe the pathology of Narcissistic Personality disorder and Antisocial Personality disorder; Define traumatic bonding and complex traumatic stress; Distinguish the different forms of empathy (Healthy, Average Functioning, and Unhealthy)

Narcissism Expert

Catherine Barrett is a licensed Clinical Forensic Psychologist who has been practicing as a psychotherapist for 10 years. Dr. Barrett has a dual focus, working both in family practice and forensic psychology. Dr. Barrett received her Doctorate in Clinical Forensic Psychology from Alliant International University- California School of Forensic Studies. Her pre and post-doctoral work was in the evaluation, assessment, and treatment of mentally disordered offenders, individuals found not guilty by reason of insanity, sex offenders, and sexually violent predators. It was here where Dr. Barrett first gained her experience working with severe personality disorders; specifically Narcissistic and Antisocial personality. Dr. Barrett also has a family practice with Teen Therapy Center in Woodland Hills, where she treats many survivors of personality disordered abuse. Dr. Barrett also performs psychological testing for adolescents and facilitates a group for LGBT teens.
