  • COURSE DESCRIPTION

This on-demand podcast course explores the roots of fear and division in polarized times and how clinicians can foster empathy and resilience in their clients and themselves. Led by Dr. Tania Israel, an expert in counseling psychology and healing political divisions, this course delves into the concept of “affective polarization”—the hostility and mistrust felt toward opposing views. Listeners will gain insights into reducing cognitive biases, managing personal responses to divisive issues, and encouraging open-hearted, non-judgmental dialogue. Through practical techniques, clinicians will learn ways to support clients in polarized environments, strengthen social bonds, and foster a sense of unity, even in challenging times.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Identify and describe at least three cognitive biases that contribute to polarization and how they shape perceptions of people with differing beliefs; Briefly detail how media consumption influences affective polarization and describe methods to mitigate its impact on personal biases; Describe the importance of empathy paired with equanimity in fostering understanding in polarized environments
