    The DBT Mindfulness skills are considered “core” essential skills to utilizing and mastering all the other DBT skills. DBT Mindfulness skills are taught and practiced throughout DBT treatment. Mindfulness practice promotes active and deliberate awareness of what is going on inside and outside of us in any given moment without judgment. This course will also describe the importance of mindfulness practice for professions in order to be more effective in our work with our clients, as well as others in our lives.

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: List the 7 DBT Mindfulness Skills; Describe how the practice of Mindfulness improves a professional’s clinical work

    Please note that this course is part I of a three-part series about DBT. This course can be taken alone or as part of the series.

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; you are able to re-test)
    #4: Complete the required course evaluation.

Patricia (Patty) Gieselman, MFT is a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician™. She is the founder and Executive Director of Choices Counseling & Skills Center, which specializes in comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with extensive experience working with adults, adolescents and families in both community-based and residential settings. During her career, she has worked in the public and private sector as a clinician, consultant, trainer, program director and Vice President of Clinical Services. In addition to offering counseling services, Ms. Gieselman trains mental health professionals as a provider of continuing education courses for the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists (CAMFT), Board of Registered Nursing and the American Psychological Association and has been an adjunct instructor for local colleges and universities. Patty is well known for her practical yet often whimsical approach to teaching and problem solving.
