• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    How can mental health professionals help tease out when a child’s development is on-track, or whether it’s time for a referral for an evaluation? This interview reviews the differences between typical and atypical child development, and how these differences can contribute to mental health issues in children and adolescents. Assessment of developmental history and how to make differential diagnosis based on this information is also discussed.

  • HOW TO TAKE THIS COURSE

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

Child Psychology Expert

Dr. Shiro Perera Torquato earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Southern California in 1986; a M.A. in Psychology with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of the Pacific in 1988; a second M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1992; and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Auburn University in 1995. She has been licensed in the state of California since 1996. Dr. Torquato has been in private practice in Simi Valley since 1999. She specializes in psychological evaluations and educational consultations for children and adolescents. Dr. Torquato uses an approach of considering early child development as an essential component to comprehensive psychological evaluations. She also presents seminars to graduate students, interns and other mental health professions.
