    In this presentation, listeners will learn about the impact of trauma of brain circuitry and personality development, and how trauma can create coping strategies that may appear maladaptive but are actually rooted in survival. Listeners will learn interventions for how to effectively work with individuals who have a history of complex trauma. This presentation also includes the discussion of a specific case study which illuminates the possible impact of trauma on an individual and the family system.

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Explain how the brain responds to attachment trauma; Describe two or more interpretations of 'client resistance'; Describe the development of personality traits and behaviors as they relate to basic survival strategies

For 30 years, Shari has been a therapist and has managed several mental health treatment centers and psychiatric facilities. She is currently a consultant and the Executive Director of Fire Mountain Residential Treatment Center. She has spent the last 10 years consulting and training therapists, counselors, and executives about how to implement evidence-based practices and trauma ingrained care.

She speaks to audiences across the country on her book, Which Way?, dispelling myths about trauma and mental illness. Her powerful message educates audiences and instills hope for those who want to understand themselves better. She has a podcast on the Mental Health News Radio Network, called Which Way? Podcast.
