• COURSE DESCRIPTION

This on-demand podcast CE course explores “diagnosing backwards” as a clinical framework for therapists working with adult caregivers of children who may have neurodivergent or otherwise under-recognized needs. The episode invites clinicians to look beyond assumptions about parenting, consider the broader family system, and respond to caregiver stress with curiosity, context, and practical tools. It also highlights how thoughtful referrals, psychoeducation, and case-management strategies can help caregivers feel more capable and equipped.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: List three or more child and family factors that may signal a need for further assessment or referral when working with an adult caregiver; briefly describe how a child’s neurodivergent needs and caregiver stress can interact in a reciprocal cycle that affects family functioning; identify four or more caregiver-centered strategies clinicians can use to explore concerns, reduce shame, and connect families with appropriate resources
