• COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course offers an in-depth exploration of bisexuality and pansexuality, guided by clinical psychologist Dr. Lana Holmes. Through rich conversation, the episode explores definitions, cultural history, identity erasure, mental health disparities, and the intersectional factors that shape bi and pan experiences. Clinicians will gain a greater understanding of how to recognize and address the unique challenges bi and pan clients face, particularly around identity invalidation, repeated coming out, and intra-community marginalization. Practical strategies and resources are provided to support clinicians in creating affirming, inclusive therapeutic environments.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Identify at least three unique challenges faced by bi and pan individuals in both heterosexual and LGBTQIA2S+ communities; Describe how cultural and systemic factors contribute to bi and pan erasure and internalized stigma; List three or more clinical strategies for creating affirming spaces for bi and pan clients in therapeutic settings.

Gender and Sexuality Expert

Lana Holmes, Psy.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist at the Center for Inclusive Therapy + Wellness. Specifically, she is licensed to practice therapy and teletherapy within GA, as well as interjurisdictional teletherapy via PsyPact. But more than that, she is a Black bisexual woman, an Air Force brat, and a punk rocker at heart.
Dr. Holmes is passionate about co-facilitating healing for people who acknowledge the multifaceted nature of their lives and identities. Her areas of clinical interest and expertise include the intersection between mental health and spirituality; BDSM, kink, and ethical non-monogamy issues; matters relating to BIPOC individuals; concerns relating to LGBTQIA2S+ folks, trauma across the lifespan, life transitions, anxiety disorders, and depressive disorders.
Her collaborative approach to treatment tailors evidence-based interventions to each person’s needs. Moreover, as a nerd, she is interested in how pop culture and the arts can help illustrate both the human and clinical experience.
