• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    In this course, hospice and palliative care physician Dr. Christopher Kerr explores the research relating to the dying experience, including non-physical, inner processes such as end-of-life visions and psychological coming-to-terms-with tasks for those who are terminally ill. By demystify these experiences and clarifying the emotional and psychological realm’s importance in supporting a peaceful transition, both the patient and the bereaved are better equipped for approaching impending death, with the aim of increasing comfort, meaning, and insight for all involved.

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Describe the research validating experiences and visions at the end of life in terms of frequency, content, and comfort; List three or more interventions clinicians can utilize to support the dying and/or their bereaved family members; Describe the evidence demonstrating the impact of patient end of life experiences on the bereaved

  • HOW TO TAKE THIS COURSE

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

Christopher Kerr, MD, PhD, is the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Executive Officer for Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Chris earned his MD as well as a PhD in Neurobiology. Alongside direct patient care, Chris’s focus is in the areas of leadership and patient advocacy. His passion is palliative care, with the belief that such care should be delivered throughout the continuum of illness. Chris has overseen the integration and expansion of palliative care into hospitals and developed a large home-based program for both adults and children. He has lectured and published on innovative program models that are designed to better align patient/family services to the complexity of needs inherent to advanced illness. Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias, MS, LMFT

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias (she/her) is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and the Founder and President of Clearly Clinical.
