• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    With traumatic death on the rise as a result of factors like suicide, substance use, medical conditions, and gun violence, it is critical that the behavioral health field better understand how to support grievers. This podcast CE course provides information about theory and interventions for those in grief and bereavement, particularly around supporting the traumatically bereaved. Current debate in the field surrounding diagnosis for grievers is explored, as well as discussion about clinical presentation.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Explain differences between grief, bereavement, and traumatic grief; Briefly describe ‘Prolonged Grief Disorder’, including debate in the field about the diagnostic criteria; List two or more specific therapeutic interventions for use with traumatically bereaved clients

  • HOW TO TAKE THIS COURSE

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

    Course elements (including the course audio, post-test, and requested course evaluation) can be completed on a computer or mobile device via your Clearly Clinical account.

Grief Expert

Terri Waibel, MSW, LCSW, FT is the founder and clinical director of Center for Compassion, a multi-provider private psychotherapy practice located in Chandler, Arizona dedicated to supporting the traumatically bereaved after the death of a beloved person. Center for Compassion is creating a more compassionate world so that no person has limited support for grief, trauma, or suffering. Terri is also the founder of the Southwest Institute for Grief and Trauma Studies, an education body that is closing the gap in grief education for helping professionals. As the 2023 NASW of Arizona Social Worker of the Year, Terri brings 20 years of volunteer and work experience to the field. Terri is simultaneously honored and heartbroken to be present with grievers and proud to call herself a grief activist. She devotes herself to this work in memory of her brother and her beloved daughter, Kyndrid.

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias (she/her) is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and the Founder and President of Clearly Clinical.
