• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    What is Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (‘MCAS’) and why should the clinical community be attuned to this condition, particularly within the eating disorder population? This course discusses the research that explains the relationship between eating disorders and the perplexing, mercurial syndrome MCAS. With up to 20% of eating disorder clients impacted by MCAS, Amy discusses how to recognize and evaluate the signs and symptoms, steps in diagnosis and treatment, and explains what may interfere with receiving effective care in today’s medical community.

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Briefly describe Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and its clinical presentation; List three symptoms of eating disorder clients’ presentation that could be related to MCAS; Describe recommended referrals for suspected MCAS in a mental health client

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

Amy Chalker, RDN

Nutritionist and Eating Disorder Expert

Born and raised on Cape Cod, Amy studied at Barnard College in NYC and Simmons College in Boston, earning a B.S. in Nutrition & Dietetics. She completed her Dietetic Internship at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, earning her Registered Dietitian license in 2006. She resides in California where she runs her virtual nutrition therapy private practice, focusing on the treatment of clinical eating disorders and disordered eating behaviors. She complements her work with continuing education through the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies.

Amy has mentored with clinicians in a variety of settings, including Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Canyon Ranch Health Resort & Spa in Tucson, and in other treatment facilities nationwide. She has presented at the Massachusetts Eating Disorders Association conference, and developed nutrition curricula for the peer education program at Simmons. Amy is currently accruing hours toward becoming a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist.

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias (she/her) is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and the Founder and President of Clearly Clinical.
