  • Course Description

    This course provides an overview of clinical needs among the diverse Asian American & Pacific Islander population. These diverse communities are experiencing heightened levels of trauma and crisis due to longstanding historical marginalization and the differential impacts of the COVID -19 pandemic, increasing the need for culturally affirming mental health services. This course discusses pertinent population demographics and clinical concerns as well as recommendations for bolstering therapeutic interventions.

  • Learning Objectives

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Identify three demographic features of Asian American communities which are pertinent in assessment and treatment planning; Demonstrate ability to explain two major systemic stressors impacting Asian American clients and families in the current escalating crisis.

  • How To Take This Course

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. Helen H. Hsu, PsyD, is Lead Outreach Clinician, liaison to the Asian American Activities Center, and lecturer at Stanford University. She is a bi-cultural, bi-lingual clinical psychologist, clinical supervisor, and founder of Hella Mental Health LLC, providing consultation and education nationwide on topics addressing youth and adult mental health, grief support, and culturally responsive interventions for BIPOC communities. Dr. Hsu is a past president and Fellow of the Asian American Psychological Association, and an advisory board member of the JED Foundation. Dr. Hsu is past Chair of the American Psychological Association (APA) Minority Fellowship Program Training Advisory Committee and served a term on the APA Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Expression. Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias (she/her) is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and the Founder and President of Clearly Clinical.
