• COURSE DESCRIPTION

Far too frequently, communities are faced with the horrible consequences resulting from acts of violence committed by young people. More and more, mental health professionals are being asked to weigh in on scenarios where a child, teen or young adult has made threat of violence at their school, college or workplace. For many professionals, this request feels overwhelming because of the responsibility for having to make a decision regarding a potentially violent situation/ individual.

This podcast provides an introduction to the field of threat management, including leading organizations relevant to mental health professionals, and best practices in assessing threats of violence, particularly involving children, teen, and young adults. This episode also discusses Red Flag behaviors exhibited addressed by schools, universities or workplaces and information about recognized risk assessment tools to more effectively assess the risk for violence.

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Identify three goals of a threat management team and threat assessment process; Name five factors/ signs that indicate that a person may be at a higher risk for violence
