• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    In this presentation-style on-demand podcast CE course, occupational therapist Robin Abbott explores the vestibular system and its role in shaping behavior, attention, emotional regulation, and sensory integration in children. Drawing from clinical experience and sensory integration theory, this episode helps mental health professionals understand how internal sensory processing may influence outward behavior, including anxiety, hyperactivity, sleep challenges, and emotional reactivity. By reconeptualizing these behaviors as physiologically-driven rather than purely cognitive or behavioral, clinicians can better understand underlying mechanisms and support more effective interventions and referrals.

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: List two or more key functions of the vestibular system in relation to behavior and development; Identify at least three behavioral indicators of vestibular dysfunction in clinical populations; Briefly describe how vestibular input can contribute to emotional regulation and attention

  • HOW TO TAKE THIS COURSE

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

Robin Abbott, MS, OTR/L has lived in eleven states, one foreign country, and currently calls upstate New York home. She has been an occupational therapist for 25 years, and is also a writer, yoga teacher and mother of two. She is advanced-practitioner certified in Therapeutic Listening. In her 15 years working with children, she has encountered many parents, educators and professionals that lack an understanding of how the auditory and vestibular systems impact daily function, learning and communication.
