• COURSE DESCRIPTION

Through the lenses of Cheryl Qamar, an Arab-American social worker, and Dr. Mark Hammel, a Jewish American psychologist, this on-demand podcast CE course informs mental health professionals about the realities of antisemitism, anti-Arab sentiments, and related forms of ethnic, racial, cultural, and religious discrimination affecting Jewish, Arab, and Muslim communities in the United States. In addition to defining various terms like antisemitism and Islamophobia and discussing the increases in discrimination facing these different groups of people, this course uses touchstones of cultural humility and cultural sensitivity in order to provide thoughtful, effective care to clients who both share and differ from our own personal (therapist’s) belief systems.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, users will be able to: Define Antisemitism, Zionism, and Islamophobia; Briefly explain how the concept of clinical cultural humility/cultural sensitivity relates to the concept of ‘Do not harm’; Briefly describe how cultural and political biases among clinicians can affect mental health practices and interventions for marginalized groups
