• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    This on-demand podcast CE course offers an exploration of moving beyond simply affirming care toward true competence in working with transgender and gender expansive clients. Through historical context, evolving standards of care, and practical clinical considerations, this course examines how to reduce gatekeeping, understand legal and ethical considerations, and provide competent, informed support. The course also addresses clinician fears, documentation practices, and strategies for continual growth in cultural humility, helping clinicians navigate this complex and essential area of clinical practice with greater confidence and integrity.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: List three or more key components required in an ethical gender-affirming letter of support according to WPATH Standards of Care version 8; Briefly describe how the concepts of cultural humility and cultural competence apply to working with gender expansive clients; Define gatekeeping

  • HOW TO TAKE THIS COURSE

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:
    #1: Have an active paid Clearly Clinical membership

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

    Course elements (including the course audio, post-test, and requested course evaluation) can be completed on a computer or mobile device via your Clearly Clinical account.

Expert Gender Therapist

Angela Brooks-Livingston (she/they) currently serves Wilkes County, NC as a private practitioner. They graduated from Appalachian State University Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master's program with a concentration in Marriage and Family therapy, and certificates in Addictions Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy. She holds credentials as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, Certified Clinical Supervisor, and a National Certified Counselor. She worked in community mental health for 8.5 years and started their private practice in August, 2020. Angela specializes in working with the LGBTGEQIA+ community, specifically transgender and gender expansive clients. She provides licensure supervision for associate licensed professionals. They teach at Appalachian State University as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Counseling, Family Therapy, and Higher Education. Angela practices soul-care by camping with her partner, son, and dog, watching British television, practicing Julia Child recipes, reading, working puzzles, and listening to 80s hair bands.

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias (she/her) is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and the Founder and President of Clearly Clinical.
