COURSE DESCRIPTION
Dissociation is a natural part of the human experience, especially in response to trauma or stress, yet many clinicians remain baffled by how to best navigate dissociation therapeutically. In this course, clinical trauma specialist and author Dr. Jamie Marich (a woman who is also out and proud about living with a dissociative disorder long-term) discusses how our greatest barrier to working with dissociation is our fear of it. These fears can be shifted by engaging in an entirely different conversation about dissociation... not as pathology, but as a necessary function of the brain that helps us all to protect ourselves and to get our needs met. This course breaks down dissociation and Dissociative Identity Disorder in a holistic manner, including historical context, societal influences, and modern trauma knowledge, in order to improve clinical management of clients with dissociative symptoms.
