• COURSE DESCRIPTION

This on-demand podcast CE course explores the evolution of motivational interviewing as a flexible, process-oriented approach to supporting change in complex clinical environments. It moves beyond foundational skills to examine how clinicians can adapt motivational interviewing across diverse settings, integrate it with other therapeutic modalities, and respond to systemic and contextual influences on client behavior. Emphasizing curiosity, collaboration, and autonomy, the presenters highlight how motivational interviewing can be used to navigate ambivalence, support engagement, and foster meaningful progress, even in time-limited or high-demand clinical contexts.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Differentiate between change talk and sustain talk using at least two clinical examples; Briefly describe the concept of selective reinforcement of change talk and how it can influence client outcomes; Identify at least two systemic or contextual factors that may impact a client’s ability to change
