• COURSE DESCRIPTION

    This on-demand podcast CE course provides an overview of the field of psycho-oncology and the complex relationship between cancer diagnosis, treatment, and psychological well-being. The conversation examines common emotional responses to cancer, including grief, trauma, anxiety, uncertainty, and fear of recurrence, as well as the broader impact of cancer on caregivers, families, relationships, and social systems. The course also addresses treatment-related mental health concerns, multidisciplinary models of care, evidence-informed psychotherapy approaches, and practical considerations for supporting patients and families throughout diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and ongoing adjustment.

  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Describe four or more ways cancer may affect caregivers, family relationships, occupational functioning, finances, or broader social systems; Identify at least three cancer treatments or treatment-related factors that may contribute to changes in mood, sleep, cognition, energy, or behavior; List three or more psychosocial interventions or methods used in psycho-oncology

  • HOW TO TAKE THIS COURSE

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:

    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

Boris Kisilev, MD

Psycho-oncology Expert and Board Certified Psychiatrist

Dr. Kiselev is board certified in internal medicine and general psychiatry. He is a consult liaison psychiatrist at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. Additionally, he is an assistant professor in the Psycho-oncology Program in the Department of Supportive Oncology at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute and an assistant professor in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Kiselev specializes in treating patients with complex medical comorbidities, including cancer, coinciding with psychiatric symptoms such as depression, anxiety, fatigue and pain. Dr. Kiselev has additional training in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for depression, medical assistance treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I).

Dr. Kiselev enjoys practicing both psychiatry and internal medicine. He appreciates the interaction between a patient’s physical and mental health and believes in approaching patients from a holistic perspective that incorporates a consideration of their biology, psychology and social environment.

He received his medical degree and a certificate in translational research at Virginia Tech and completed his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, being outdoors and reading. He practices martial arts, including jiu-jitsu.

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias (she/her) is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and the Founder and President of Clearly Clinical.
