Discussion about how to conceptualize healthy, ethical, and sustainable boundary setting in clinical practice, from fee setting to scheduling

Interview with Elizabeth Irias, LMFT

  • Course Description

How do we decide what private practice business boundaries are right for us, like how much to charge for a late cancellation, or whether to charge anything at all? Through detailed evaluation of values, conditioning, and boundaries, this course helps therapists connect therapeutic outcomes to clear and transparent business practices, and aims to simplify the process of considering, creating, and executing effective and ethical business practices. This podcast CE course explores the client experience of clinical boundaries (for example, offering an errant weekend appointment, taking a phone call after-hours, etc.) and their potential repercussions, as well as discussion about how unclear boundaries can negatively impact clinical outcomes.

  • Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: List three or more business practice areas where clinicians may struggle with healthy boundary-setting/boundary-keeping; Describe a scenario about loose or poorly-defined business processes/boundaries having a negative impact on client/therapist attunement and clinical outcome; Describe how informed consent is continually part of an ethical client/therapist relationship
