    This interesting interview discusses the challenges of and strategies for navigating interpersonal conflicts under highly-anxious, shelter-in-place conditions, and how the pandemic crisis offers opportunities for breaking free of the ensconced patterns of political divisiveness in our society. This interview discusses the research behind the Conflict Anxiety Resolution Scale, and describes particular ways people respond to anxiety, both on the macro (societal) and micro (close relationship) levels.

Dr. Peter T. Coleman is a professor of psychology and education at Columbia University who studies polarizing, intractable conflict and sustainable peace, and whose next book titled, The Way Out: How to Overcome Toxic Polarization will be released in 2021 (https://www.thewayoutofpolarization.com/). He is a renowned expert on constructive conflict resolution and sustainable peace who has authored a dozen books, over 100 articles and chapters, is a member of the United Nations Mediation Support Unit’s Academic Advisory Council, and is a New York State certified mediator and experienced consultant. Dr. Coleman's work is often featured in outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian, The Chicago Tribute, Nature, Politico, and Psychology Today.

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias, MS, LMFT

Elizabeth 'Beth' Irias (she/her) is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and the Founder and President of Clearly Clinical. She has specializations in Clinical Documentation, Best Practice, and Utilization Review, and works closely with clinical teams across the US as a trainer and national conference presenter. She operates a private practice in Westlake Village, CA, where she provides therapy to adolescent/young adult clients, members of the LGBTQ population, and those with addictive disorders. Beth is an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University in the Graduate Psychology and Education department. She also has two young children, a super cool husband who helps out with Clearly Clinical, a rescue dog, and a rescue cat.
