    It is integral to understand the basics of LGBTQ identities to even begin to work with the population. Understanding language, being able to speak with empathy and with confidence are all important factors for true affirming care. This course will discuss language and some very basic nuances of helping the LGBTQ community.

    Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: List three strategies clinicians can use to be more affirming to their LGBTQ clients; Describe the difference between gender and sexuality

  • How To Take This Course

    In order to receive a certificate of completion reflecting the associated CE credit hour, you must:
    #1: Have an active paid Clearly Clinical membership
    #2: Listen to the corresponding course podcast
    #3: Achieve a passing grade on the post-presentation test (the test has up to ten questions and you must earn a score of at least 80%; users can re-test up to three times. After three attempts, users are advised to re-listen to the audio course in its entirety and then subsequently re-test. Psychologists who are seeking CE credit may not be awarded credit if they attempt to pass the post-test more than three times.)
    #4: Complete the requested course evaluation.

    Course elements (including the course audio, post-test, and requested course evaluation) can be completed on a computer or mobile device via your Clearly Clinical account.

Beck Gee-Cohen, LADC

LGBTQ+ Expert

Beck resides in Los Angeles, CA. He has over a decade of personal recovery and continues to address concerns of equality and acceptance of LGBTQ+ in recovery, educational, and mental health communities. Beck’s master’s degree is in Addiction Studies from Hazelden Graduate School. Beck has facilitated workshops and spoken internationally at various conferences regarding advocacy, trauma, recovery, and adolescents specifically involving LGBTQ+ communities. Today he continues to train clinicians and facility staff on LGBTQ+ issues, helps facilities establish LGBTQ+ inclusive policies, and provides program development for facilities that want to expand their services to LGBTQ+ populations, all via the company he founded, called BGC Consulting. He also works with LGBTQ identified young people and their families to help navigate educational institutions and treatment settings as an associate consultant at The Romeyn Collective. and is also passionate about his work with La Fuente Hollywood where he brings LGBTQ+ education to their therapists & direct care staff.
