Get a better understanding of privacy laws

Presentation-style

  • Course Description

In this course, we address a common problem in the field of behavioral health: Client/patient privacy. On one hand, client privacy and confidentiality are of utmost importance... breaches of client privacy and confidentiality can cause damage to a client’s employment outlook, social relationships, and willingness to seek treatment. On the other hand, sharing client information with relevant parties and at appropriate times is periodically necessary for effective treatment. Staying in compliance with these often-conflicting ideals and the related privacy laws is a challenge, and this presentation will describe strategies for success in this area.

  • Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: Describe the basic requirements of HIPAA and related privacy laws; List two or more consequences of violating HIPAA; Describe the application of 42 CFR Part 2 in the behavioral health context
